About the Internship

The Safety Engineer Intern will assist with safety-related projects and improvements throughout the facility, with a strong focus on keeping employees safe and reducing workplace hazards. This internship offers real-world exposure to industrial safety practices, hazard assessments, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional collaboration with production and maintenance teams.

Interns will work closely with the Safety Department and Safety Manager to identify risks, analyze data, and support improvements that enhance workplace safety across the plant.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Safety Department with scheduling and conducting hazard assessments

  • Lead and participate in meetings with production and maintenance teams to complete hazard assessments

  • Record and manage assessment data using Excel

  • Analyze safety data and organize findings by risk level

  • Support and track improvement projects tied to hazard assessments

  • Recalculate assessment totals following project completion

  • Respond to plant safety projects and opportunities as directed by the Safety Manager

  • Support maintenance projects and equipment installations

  • Assist with determining requirements for safety devices and related installations


Education & Experience Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Engineering, Safety, or a related field

  • Knowledge or coursework related to hazard assessments

  • Minimum of one completed year in a related field (preferred)

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 or more credit hours) for the Fall 2026 semester

  • Must be 18 years of age or older


Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a creative approach to safety improvements

  • High level of motivation and a positive attitude

  • Strong math skills with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent oral, written, and listening communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and plan effectively

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and 3D modeling software

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Ability to present information and interact with large groups

  • Ability to work flexible schedules and manage workload independently
