About the Role

The OTR Driver is responsible for safely operating tractor-trailer equipment between FLASH locations and customer destinations, as assigned by Dispatch. Drivers must load and unload commodities in accordance with both customer and FLASH policies. This position requires extensive travel and flexibility, including international routes when required, and the ability to report to terminals other than the primary work location as operational needs arise.


Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate tractor-trailer equipment in compliance with DOT regulations and company policies

  • Transport commodities between FLASH facilities and customer locations, including out-of-country travel as required

  • Load and unload trailers according to customer and company procedures

  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractor and trailer

  • Maintain ongoing communication with Dispatch via onboard computer systems

  • Accurately and timely enter required data into onboard systems

  • Report to Dispatch at assigned times and follow dispatch instructions

  • Maintain full knowledge of commercial vehicle laws and regulations

  • Operate any FLASH equipment and transport any approved commodity based on training

  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety standards


Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age

  • One year of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience within the last three years

    • Exceptions may be considered for individuals who have successfully completed a certified driving school

  • Valid CDL Class A license

  • Clean driving record, including:

    • Zero preventable accidents within the past year

    • Zero OWI/DUI convictions within the past five years

  • Permanent address with driver’s license issued by state of residence

  • U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card highly preferred and may be required for certain routes

  • Reliable phone number for company contact

  • Ability to pass:

    • DOT physical examination

    • Drug screening

    • Written test and comprehensive road test (including road driving, trailer hookup and drop, inspections, parking, and backing)

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations

  • Ability to account for employment and unemployment history for the past ten years

  • Completion of a full and accurate employment application


Physical Requirements & Essential Functions

Drivers should expect to perform the following functions consistently:

  • Drive up to 11 hours per shift (up to 12 hours with applicable state exceptions)

  • Be away from home for extended periods, including up to two weeks at a time

  • Sit for long periods while operating a tractor

  • Lift and carry hoses weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Climb in and out of tractors, on top of trailers, and on railcars

  • Perform repetitive bending, crouching, walking, standing, and sitting

  • Maintain communication with Dispatch throughout the shift

  • Follow all policies outlined in the Employee Handbook and New Hire Guide
