News Editor / Reporter

Paxton Media Group is seeking a passionate, community-driven News Editor/Reporter to lead news coverage across the Perry County News, Spencer Journal Democrat, and Lincoln’s Country Shopper. This full-time, salaried role combines editing, reporting, photography, and team coordination. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller who values local journalism and is eager to help shape community conversations.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Creation & Editing

• Write engaging, accurate news articles and features for both print and online platforms

• Take and edit photos with clear, informative captions

• Prepare all copy and images for pagination to meet deadlines

• Assign stories and events to staff and freelancers as needed

Digital & Print Publishing

• Ensure timely updates to the newspaper website

• Collaborate on special sections and publications with the advertising team

• Assist with additional Paxton Media Group publications as needed

Leadership & Community Engagement

• Serve as the editorial voice for local coverage in Perry and Spencer Counties

• Communicate effectively with the production hub, publisher, and regional editor

• Represent the newspaper to the public and maintain community relationships

Schedule & Work Conditions:

• Full-time, 40 hours per week (exempt)

• Some evening and weekend work required for event coverage

• Reports directly to the group publisher

• In-person role based in southern Indiana

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary: $37,440 per year
