As a Jail Officer, you will be responsible for the secure and efficient operation of the Perry County Jail. This includes monitoring detainee activities, processing bookings and releases, enforcing facility rules, and ensuring detainee welfare. You will work closely with law enforcement, courts, attorneys, and the public while maintaining professionalism, safety, and compliance with all regulations. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain interior security of the jail, monitor detainee activities, and perform regular cell checks and head counts

Process detainee bookings and releases, including fingerprinting, photographing, and collecting personal property

Oversee allowable detainee activities, such as visitation, commissary, and phone calls

Distribute meals, manage hygiene supplies, and ensure facility cleanliness

Administer medications and coordinate medical care for detainees as directed

Enforce facility rules, address inappropriate behavior, and restrain detainees when necessary

Escort or transport detainees to court, medical facilities, and other approved locations

Maintain detailed logs, incident reports, and records in compliance with department standards

Respond to inquiries from attorneys, family members, and the public regarding detainee status and visitation

Participate in ongoing training and respond to emergencies as needed
Qualifications

High school diploma or GED
-
At least 18 years of age
-
Completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Academy for Correctional Officers (or ability to obtain)

First Responder/CPR certification (or ability to obtain)

Valid Indiana driver’s license with safe driving record

Strong knowledge of correctional facility procedures and applicable laws

Ability to use jail-related equipment and technology

Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills

Ability to handle potentially violent situations with discretion and professionalism
