As a Head Start Intern, you will work up to 16 hours per week alongside experienced early childhood educators, assisting in daily classroom operations and learning the essentials of child development and care. This position is ideal for students pursuing a career in education, social work, or a related field, offering valuable mentorship and practical experience in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead teachers in maintaining a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom

  • Support classroom management and help prepare learning materials and activities

  • Engage with children through play, learning, and routine care

  • Learn and apply standards set by Head Start Performance Standards, Indiana Day Care Licensing, and CACFP Guidelines

  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to Head Start Birth-5 program procedures and conduct

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in high school, a CTE program, or a college-level undergraduate/graduate program in Early Childhood or related field

  • Knowledge or experience in early childhood education is preferred

  • Must pass required screenings, including criminal background checks, drug screen, physical, and TB test

  • Must meet all Head Start and Indiana Child Care Licensing regulations

Start Date & Schedule
Tentative start date is July 14, 2025, with flexibility to align with your school program schedule. This is a temporary position lasting through the end of the school year or semester.
