Geri-Psych Therapist

About the Role

The Geri-Psych Therapist provides therapeutic services to older adult patients experiencing mental health challenges. This position requires strong clinical judgment, independent decision-making, and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team to deliver high-quality behavioral health care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individual therapy services to geriatric patients

• Conduct assessments, treatment planning, and ongoing documentation

• Make independent clinical decisions related to patient care

• Respond effectively in emergency or crisis situations

• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary care teams

• Support patient transfers and care activities using proper body mechanics

• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, ethical standards, and licensure requirements

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Counseling or Behavioral Science from an accredited graduate school

• Current licensure as LCSW, LCPC, or LPC

• Current BLS/CPR certification

• Must meet all applicable state licensure standards

Experience

• 2–3 years of clinical experience working with older adults preferred

• Hospital or nursing home experience strongly preferred

Physical & Mental Requirements

• Ability to maintain close attention to detail and exercise sound clinical judgment

• Capacity to work independently and manage patient care decisions

• Physical stamina to perform moderate walking, standing, and occasional lifting

• Ability to remain calm, resourceful, and effective in emergency situations
