The Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) is seeking a compassionate, driven professional to join its team as a Family Case Manager in Perry County. In this vital role, you will work to protect children from abuse and neglect, support families in crisis, and help ensure that every child has a safe and permanent home.

Location: Tell City, Indiana (serving Perry County)

Starting Salary: $47,320/year (may vary with experience or education)

Position Overview:
Family Case Managers are responsible for investigating child abuse or neglect reports, developing treatment plans for families, and working toward long-term, permanent solutions for the safety and well-being of children. You’ll partner with schools, courts, service providers, and other agencies to advocate for children’s best interests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate allegations of child abuse or neglect and determine risk level

  • Recommend and, if necessary, facilitate the removal of children from unsafe environments

  • Develop and manage case plans aimed at family reunification or permanent placement

  • Collaborate with service providers and monitor treatment progress

  • Testify in court and prepare reports for judges and stakeholders

  • Visit children and families regularly, including in out-of-home placements

  • Conduct home studies and adoption recommendations

  • Maintain accurate case documentation and records

  • Participate in on-call rotation for emergency responses

What You’ll Need:
One of the following educational or experience pathways:

  • Bachelor’s degree (any field)

  • Associate degree + 2 years of human services experience

  • 30 college credit hours + 3 years of human services experience

  • 5+ years of human services job experience

Additional Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Strong communication, assessment, and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, and Indiana Code

  • Sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and family structures

  • Ability to manage stress and high-stakes decision-making

  • Comfortable working with children with special needs or in crisis situations
