Dual Language Learner Specialist

The Dual Language Learner Specialist provides training, observes children, develops strategies to support cross-cultural relationships, and serves as both a translator and mentor for staff, children, and families. This position supports Head Start Birth to 5’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, while also ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Indiana Day Care Licensing Regulations, CACFP Guidelines, and the program’s procedures manual.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide translation services for families and staff, including marketing, recruitment, enrollment, home visits, parent-teacher conferences, and developmental screenings.

• Train and mentor staff to strengthen dual-language learning strategies.

• Support children’s development by observing and developing cross-cultural approaches.

• Partner with the management team to assess diversity and inclusion practices, identify barriers, and recommend improvements.

• Promote positive and respectful relationships between children, families, and staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• Must obtain a credential/certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or related field within 18 months of hire.

• Bilingual skills (verbal and written) in English and Spanish are required.

• Must meet Head Start and Indiana Childcare Licensing requirements, including:

  • Criminal history check

  • Sex offender registry check

  • Drug screening

  • Physical exam and annual TB test

• Ability to comply with Head Start Standards of Conduct.

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay: $18.77 – $21.44 per hour

• Schedule: 35 hours per week
