About the Role
LHDC Head Start Birth-5 is seeking a Disabilities and Behavioral Health Specialist to support inclusive, high-quality services for children with IEPs, IFSPs, and behavioral or social-emotional needs. This role provides training, observations, and hands-on support to children, families, and staff while ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and Indiana childcare regulations.
The Specialist works closely with Local Education Agencies (LEAs), Part C agencies, families, and program staff to ensure coordinated services and positive outcomes for children.
Key Responsibilities

Provide training, coaching, and technical assistance to staff related to disabilities and behavioral health

Observe children and support the development of strategies for challenging behaviors and developmental needs

Develop, implement, and maintain positive working relationships with Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and Part C agencies

Monitor and manage IEP/IFSP documentation, developmental screenings, social-emotional screenings, and related data

Support and model strategies for staff and families related to:

IEPs and IFSPs
-
Positive Support Plans
-
Behavioral Management Plans
-

Maintain frequent presence at Head Start facilities as needed or directed

Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Indiana Day Care Licensing Regulations, CACFP Guidelines, and LHDC policies and procedures

Complete required documentation and reporting related to disability and behavioral health services
Qualifications
-
Associate Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related discipline required

OR enrollment in an accredited program leading to an Associate Degree in a related field
-

Three (3) or more years of experience in early childhood education, special education, and/or mental health may be considered in place of degree requirements

Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Knowledge of child development and preschool experience preferred

Must meet all Head Start and Indiana Childcare Licensing Regulations

Must comply with Head Start Standards of Conduct

Successful completion of:

Federal and state criminal history background checks

Sex offender registry checks

Drug screening

Physical examination and annual TB testing
