About the Role
The Diesel Technician/Mechanic is responsible for maintaining diesel equipment by performing inspections, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs. This position plays a critical role in ensuring vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, and compliant with state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities

Inspect vehicles and equipment to determine condition and diagnose issues

Perform diagnostic testing to identify worn or damaged parts
-
Complete preventive maintenance schedules to keep equipment operational
-
Repair, adjust, overhaul, assemble, disassemble, and replace major systems and components, including:

Power and drivetrain systems
-
Electrical systems
-
Air conditioning
-
Fuel and emissions systems
-
Brake and steering systems
-
Hydraulic systems
-

Perform machine shop operations and precision adjustments, including:
-
Bearing loads
-
Gear tooth contact
-
Valve mechanisms
-
Governors
-
Oil systems
-
Control linkages
-
Clutches and traction units
-
-
Install component upgrades, control corrosion, and complete winterization procedures
-
Inspect, maintain, and change tires as needed
-
Ensure compliance with federal and state vehicle safety and emissions standards
-
Maintain accurate service and repair records
-
Troubleshoot and maintain shop equipment and tools
-
Participate in training, educational opportunities, and technical updates
-
Support the maintenance department by taking ownership of tasks and assisting with additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
-
Strong mechanical and technical knowledge of diesel equipment
-
Experience using mechanical inspection tools and diagnostic equipment
-
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and regulations
-
Strong attention to detail and thorough documentation skills
-
Dependable with strong problem-solving abilities
-
Effective verbal communication skills

Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
