Correctional Officers at Branchville work as part of a team to ensure the security of staff, incarcerated individuals, and the facility. Officers are responsible for supervising daily activities, escorting incarcerated individuals, enforcing rules, and maintaining order. This position requires focus, resilience, and the ability to remain vigilant during 12-hour shifts. Officers work 85.75 hours in a two-week period, including one weekend shift.


Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor assigned areas for security, incarcerated individual counts, and rule compliance.

  • Escort incarcerated individuals to designated locations (meals, medical, work, recreation).

  • Enforce facility rules and complete incident or conduct reports as needed.

  • Supervise work details including cleanup of grounds and buildings.

  • Conduct searches of individuals, housing areas, and visitors for contraband.

  • Maintain accurate logs and prepare reports on activities, movements, and violations.

  • Respond to emergencies and enforce safety procedures.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Ability to pass drug screenings, background checks, and all DOC training requirements.

  • Strong communication and observation skills.

  • Ability to work with incarcerated individuals in line with DOC’s mission.

  • Willingness to work overtime, including up to 16 consecutive hours if necessary.

  • Ability to understand and properly utilize chemical agents.

Physical & Mental Demands

  • Work is physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding.

  • Must remain vigilant for long periods (up to 16 hours).

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.

  • Must be able to lift, carry, or move objects and respond quickly to potential threats.

  • Stressful environment with potential for physical harm.
