Correctional Captain

As a Correctional Captain at Branchville Correctional Facility, you’ll be responsible for the oversight of daily shift operations in a medium-security correctional facility. This includes supervising correctional staff, ensuring all security posts are covered, and maintaining the safety of incarcerated individuals and employees. You will play a critical leadership role in managing incidents, supporting offender rehabilitation, and enforcing facility policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage correctional staff, including shift scheduling, training, performance evaluation, and discipline

• Maintain facility security by ensuring all posts are appropriately staffed and safety protocols followed

• Oversee daily facility operations, ensuring programs and activities stay on schedule

• Respond to incidents and emergencies, exercising sound judgment and leadership

• Maintain accurate shift reports, incident documentation, and policy compliance

• Mentor and coach team members for growth and professional development

• Encourage offender rehabilitation by supporting treatment programs and informal counseling

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• At least four (4) years of custody experience in corrections, law enforcement, or military police

• At least two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience in a related field

• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a drug screening

• Strong decision-making, delegation, and communication skills

• Must complete DOC Supervisory Training Program and maintain certifications in First Aid and CPR
