About the Role
LHDC Head Start Birth-5 is seeking a Community Engagement Specialist to strengthen community connections and support full enrollment across multiple counties. This role serves as a key liaison between Head Start centers, families, and community partners while ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and Indiana childcare regulations.
The Community Engagement Specialist plays a critical role in recruitment, enrollment, volunteer coordination, and non-federal share activities, helping ensure families have access to high-quality early childhood services.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain strong community partnerships to support program visibility and enrollment

Support recruitment and full funded enrollment across all Head Start Birth-5 counties

Coordinate volunteerism and non-federal share activities

Serve as a liaison between community agencies, committees, and Head Start Birth-5 centers

Build and maintain positive working relationships with local social service organizations

Maintain regular presence at Head Start facilities as needed or directed

Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Indiana Day Care Licensing Regulations, CACFP guidelines, and LHDC policies and procedures

Accurately complete required documentation, reports, and forms
Qualifications

Associate Degree or higher in Social Services, Human Services, Early Childhood Education, or a related field preferred

Family Services Credential or Child Development Associate (CDA) may be considered with willingness to continue education
Requirements

Must meet all Head Start and Indiana Childcare Licensing Regulations

Must comply with Head Start Standards of Conduct

Successful completion of:

Federal and state criminal history background checks

Sex offender registry checks

Drug screening

Physical examination and annual TB testing

Schedule & Compensation

Full-time position (35 hours per week)

Hourly pay range: $18.77 – $21.44, based on experience and qualifications
