About the Role

LHDC Head Start Birth-5 is seeking a part-time Classroom Aide to provide flexible support throughout the center. This position plays a vital role in ensuring consistent classroom coverage and maintaining a positive, engaging environment for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.

The Classroom Aide may assist in classrooms, on the playground, as a Cook, or with custodial duties depending on daily needs and schedules. Work hours and assignments may vary by classroom or center.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support throughout the Head Start Birth-5 Center as needed

  • Assist teachers in classrooms serving children ages 6 weeks to 5 years

  • Support children during indoor and outdoor play activities

  • Assist with food service or custodial duties as assigned

  • Communicate positively and professionally with children and families

  • Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment

  • Follow Head Start Performance Standards, Indiana Day Care Licensing Regulations, CACFP Guidelines, and LHDC policies and procedures


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Experience with infants, toddlers, and/or preschool children preferred

  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and staff


Credential Requirements

  • Obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential within one year of hire

  • LHDC may provide on-the-job training to assist with credential attainment


Requirements

  • Must meet all Head Start and Indiana Childcare Licensing Regulations

  • Compliance with Head Start Standards of Conduct

  • Successful completion of:

    • Federal and state criminal history background checks

    • Sex offender registry checks

    • Drug screening

    • Physical examination and annual TB testing


Schedule

  • Part-time position

  • 28 hours per week

  • Schedule varies by classroom or center needs
