About the Role
LHDC Head Start Birth-5 is seeking a dependable and caring Classroom Aide to support daily operations throughout the center. This role is designed to provide coverage wherever needed—supporting classrooms, playground activities, food service, or custodial duties—to ensure continuity of care and a positive learning environment for children.
Work hours and assignments may vary by classroom or center based on daily scheduling needs. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy variety, teamwork, and working directly with young children and families.
Key Responsibilities

Provide support throughout the Head Start Birth-5 Center as needed

Assist in classrooms, on the playground, in food service, or with custodial duties as assigned

Engage positively with infants, toddlers, and preschool children (ages 6 weeks to 5 years)

Support teachers and staff to maintain safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environments

Communicate effectively with children, families, and staff

Follow all Head Start Performance Standards, Indiana Day Care Licensing Regulations, CACFP Guidelines, and LHDC policies and procedures
Qualifications
-
High School Diploma or equivalent required
-
Experience working with infants, toddlers, and/or preschool children preferred

Strong communication skills and ability to interact positively with children and families
Credential Requirements

Must obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential within one (1) year of hire
-
LHDC may provide on-the-job training to assist with obtaining required credentials, if needed
Requirements

Must meet all Head Start and Indiana Childcare Licensing Regulations

Compliance with Head Start Standards of Conduct

Successful completion of:

Federal and state criminal history background checks

Sex offender registry checks
-
Drug screening
-
Physical examination and annual TB testing

Schedule

Part-time position

28 hours per week
