Tell City, INDIANA (March 21, 2023) – Infrastructure upgrades are in the works for the City of Tell City, along Tell Street from 12th to Main Streets. These upgrades were announced last week when the Indiana Department of Transportation released a list of communities selected to receive Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) funds for state fiscal year 2028. The City was awarded $1,331,701.85 for new sidewalks, ADA ramps and streetlights along a four-block section of Tell Street, which connects Main Street and 12th Street, both high-traffic roadways within the City.
“Tell Street is a main route from and to our downtown area. This project will provide residents of our community with safe and accessible pathways to the school, businesses and organizations located along Tell Street,” said Mayor Chris Cail in a statement released on the City’s Facebook page.
This isn’t the only infrastructure project planned for the City. In February 2021, Mayor Cail announced that the City had been awarded over $954K from INDOT and FHWA for the development and installation of sidewalks from the East side of State Road 66 from Washington Street to William Tell Boulevard, a high-traffic thoroughfare that currently does not have sidewalks. This project is expected to be completed by 2026.
Paving projects are also in the works with the City awarded over $2.7M in Community Crossings Matching Grant funds since 2020 for upgrades throughout the City. In addition to newly paved roads and sidewalks, residents will notice new red and white street signs which are currently being installed by the Tell City Street Department. Upgrades to the City’s water infrastructure are underway as well with new water meters installed city-wide and the Franklin Street water tower undergoing restoration and painting.
