Winter Seasonal Maintenance Worker

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is seeking motivated individuals to join the Winter Seasonal Program within the Vincennes Unit. As a Winter Seasonal Maintenance Worker, you will play a critical role in keeping Indiana roads safe and operational during the winter months. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on outdoor work, take pride in public service, and can adapt to varying weather and work conditions. This seasonal position is limited to 180 working days in an 11-month period and does not include benefits.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Operate snowplows and other winter equipment for snow and ice removal

• Perform general highway maintenance, cleaning, and repair

• Assist with traffic maintenance, including repairing and installing signs and pavement markings

• Respond to emergency situations such as traffic control, lane closures, and barricade setup

• Move, load, and transport materials and supplies

• Perform minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre-trip inspections on equipment

• Follow all INDOT safety policies and procedures

• Enter required documentation into the Work Management System (WMS)

• Perform various labor and support tasks as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

• Valid driver’s license and a valid CDL (required)

• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test

• Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and perform physical labor, including standing, dragging, stooping, and walking for long periods

• Ability to operate specialty traffic equipment (e.g., bucket trucks, paint equipment)

• Ability to work in inclement weather and unpredictable or non-traditional hours during winter operations

• Strong teamwork and communication skills
