Key Responsibilities

Instructional Support:

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs.
• Provide direct instruction and support to students in both individual and group settings.
• Adapt and modify curriculum to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
• Utilize various teaching methods and resources to foster engagement and success.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Work closely with general education teachers to integrate students into the general education environment whenever possible.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and goals.
• Collaborate with other specialists, paraprofessionals, and support staff to provide comprehensive services.

Student Advocacy:

• Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student confidence and self-advocacy.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting instruction and strategies as needed.
• Advocate for students’ needs and ensure compliance with all state and federal special education laws.

Professional Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate and timely records, including IEP documentation and progress reports.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices and regulations in special education.
• Contribute to a positive school culture by participating in school-wide activities and initiatives.

Qualifications

Education and Certification:

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Valid teaching license with a special education endorsement in the state of Indiana.

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong understanding of special education laws, IEP processes, and instructional strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Ability to adapt to various teaching scenarios and manage classroom behavior effectively.
