As a Family Case Manager, you will serve as a frontline advocate for children and families, responding to reports of abuse or neglect and working to ensure safety, stability, and long-term well-being. Based primarily in Tell City and serving Perry and surrounding counties, this position plays an essential role in one of Indiana’s most meaningful public service missions. You will work toward family preservation when possible, pursue permanency through reunification, guardianship, or adoption, and support youth transitioning toward independence. Mileage reimbursement and on-call augmented pay are provided.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Investigate reports of child abuse, neglect, or dependency and determine appropriate findings

  • Assess the level of risk to child safety, take protective actions, and remove children from unsafe environments when necessary

  • Complete needs assessments and identify appropriate treatment options for families

  • Prepare pre-dispositional and progress reports, testify in court, and maintain detailed case files

  • Develop case plans that support family self-sufficiency and permanency for children

  • Create discharge and transition plans that help families and youth maintain long-term stability

  • Monitor service providers to ensure consistency and quality

  • Participate in on-call rotations to respond to allegations of abuse or neglect

  • Conduct home studies and family histories, and make adoption placement recommendations

  • Visit children in out-of-home placements and support reunification, adoption, or independent living goals

  • Maintain accurate data to help identify trends and improve services

Qualifications

Education & Experience (must meet one of the following):

  • Bachelor’s degree, OR

  • Associate degree + 2 years of human services experience, OR

  • 30+ college credits + 3 years of human services experience, OR

  • 4 years of human services experience

Additional Skills & Requirements:

  • Knowledge of social work principles, child welfare practices, and case management methods

  • Understanding of state and federal child protection laws, foster care requirements, and family preservation services

  • Ability to interview children and adults with sensitivity and professionalism

  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor treatment plans

  • Strong communication, report writing, and crisis-management skills

  • Ability to work with culturally diverse families and children with special needs

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in high-stress situations

  • Ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation
