As an Assistant Teacher for Head Start Birth–5, you will work 35 hours per week supporting the planning, organization, and implementation of high-quality educational services for children ages 3–5. In collaboration with the Lead Teacher, you will help prepare and deliver developmentally appropriate lesson plans, support classroom management, and contribute to a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about early childhood education and committed to helping children grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
In this position, you will:

Assist the Teacher with planning and implementing educational activities
-
Help prepare developmentally appropriate lesson plans using a research-based curriculum
-
Support the implementation of the Conscious Discipline Curriculum
-
Maintain a strong understanding of Head Start Performance Standards, LHDC Policies, CACFP Guidelines, Indiana Day Care Licensing Regulations, and program procedures
-
Promote a safe, supportive, and engaging classroom environment
-
Complete all documentation and forms as required
-
Model and maintain Head Start Standards of Conduct
-
Collaborate effectively with classroom staff, families, and program leadership
Qualifications
-
CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate meeting CDA requirements or enrollment in an associate/bachelor degree program or enrollment in a CDA program to be completed within one year of hire (required)

Knowledge of child development and experience teaching preschool children preferred

Ability to meet all Head Start and Indiana childcare licensing requirements, including:
-
Criminal background checks
-
Sex offender registry check
-
Drug screen
-
Physical exam and annual TB test
-
-
LHDC may provide on-the-job training to help obtain required credentials
