As the Assistant Mill Controller at Domtar, you will play a key role in providing financial and business support to our operating departments. You will ensure compliance with corporate policies and regulatory guidelines while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for optimizing operations in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely financial and management reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide financial and business leadership to the operation, driving cost-effective decision-making and strategic planning.
- Lead and perform analyses for operating and capital projects to optimize performance and profitability.
- Support continuous improvement in cost control and profit generation across the site.
- Coordinate and review month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes to meet corporate deadlines.
- Oversee the forecasting and budgeting process, ensuring alignment with operational goals.
- Validate financial results to accurately reflect operational performance.
- Maintain an effective system of internal controls, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in leading and developing the accounting team, including coaching, task delegation, succession planning, recruiting, and performance management.
- Actively participate in company-wide initiatives to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of financial reporting processes.
Qualifications
We’re looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business; CMA and/or MBA preferred, CPA a plus.
- Minimum of 5+ years in a supervisory/management accounting role within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.
- Experience working with ERP systems, preferably SAP.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting practices.
