As an Adult Basic Education Instructor at Ivy Tech, you’ll provide instruction to students in a correctional setting with the goal of helping them develop essential academic skills. You’ll guide students toward educational and personal success through effective teaching methods, relationship building, and ongoing assessment. This position requires a professional who can adapt to a unique learning environment while maintaining a positive and structured classroom experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, relevant instruction that supports student academic growth

• Maintain accurate records as required by Ivy Tech, the Indiana Department of Corrections, and the correctional facility

• Provide consistent and unbiased feedback on student work and progress

• Encourage active participation and foster a supportive learning environment

• Select course materials and supplemental resources appropriate to student needs

• Collaborate with students, peers, and facility staff to promote a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment

• Adhere to instructional schedules and participate in required meetings and trainings

• Support students with guidance and counseling that contributes to their educational development

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Must hold or be willing to obtain a valid Indiana teaching license

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience teaching in a correctional setting is beneficial, but not required
